Kirscher hits game-winner as Bulldogs topple Lumberjacks
St. MARIES — Grace Kirscher capped a monster night with the game-winning put-back in the final seconds, leading the Bulldogs to a 56-54 road win over the Lumberjacks in nonleague girls basketball Tuesday night at St. Maries High School.
Kircher finished with 31 points and 10 steals to lead the Bulldogs (1-3), who put the ball in their best players hands with the game tied at 54-54 in the final seconds.
“She missed her shot, but got the rebound and put it in. She made up her mind we were going to win and just took over,” described Bulldogs head coach Duane Ward. “She also scored 10 points in less than a minute in the second quarter.”
Ward also praised the minutes of Isabel Edwards, who played strong defense and hit four big free throws down the stretch of a close game. Ciera Bailey added eight points and Natalie Pettit five for the Bulldogs, who broke through for their first win after a tough spate of 5A competition to start the season.
Sandpoint is at Timberlake on Thursday.
