Wampus Cats sweep Miners

WALLACE — Brooke Stevens tallied 28 assists, four aces and three kills, Ellie Kiebert nine kills and two aces, and Hailey Bristol five kills and four digs to lead the Wampus Cats to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-9 sweep of the Miners in North Star League volleyball Thursday night at Wallace High School.

“The girls came focused to win. We came to play as a team and they got the job done,” said Cats head coach Cindy Derr. “Again, we were able to clear the bench and get everyone in the match. That’s always a plus for the coaching staff.”

Tessa Sutton and Grace Shelton both finished with four kills and Ali Sutton had three kills in the third set for the Cats (13-7, 9-1 NSL), who clinched the league championship with the win and the right to host districts next Saturday.

Sophie? McMahon had a good night at the service line, with several big runs in each of the sets.

“We still have a long road ahead of us to the road to state, and the coaching staff reminded the girls that,” said Derr. “We asked them not to look past districts next Saturday. It’s been a long time coming and a lot of hard work by the players and coaching staff. I am very proud of the job they have all done.”

The Clark Fork JVs finished off their season winning all three sets tonight. Even though they didn’t have a lot of matches, they did well this season, as the volleyball program continues to thrive.
