Kendrick tops Clark Fork

CLARK FORK — Facing a 1A Division II power for the second straight week, the Wampus Cats started strong, but could not sustain against No. 5 ranked Kendrick, falling 60-6 on Friday night in White Star League football at Clark Fork High School.

The Cats (2-5, 2-4 WSL) trailed just 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, before Kendrick (7-1) ran up 34 second quarter points to take a 40-0 halftime lead.

“We played pretty well in the first quarter, but once again the second quarter was our downfall,” said Cats head coach Brian Arthum. “We just kind of fell apart and turned the ball over. Kendrick was a lot more physical, and definitely had more team speed than us.”

Wade Stevens had 93 yards passing and 60 yards rushing, and Bryant Moore 57 yards receiving, but the Cats couldn’t find the end zone until a Josh Constantin four yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.

The Cats faced No. 3 Deary the previous week, facing the two league powers on back to back nights. Clark Fork can take solace in the fact Kendrick beat Kootenai 88-6, and Lakeside 88-47, scores that reflect their speed on the eight man field.

“We just need to regroup for next week,” said Arthun. “Now we know what a state playoff caliber football team looks like.”

Clark Fork will host Lewis County next Friday on Senior Night.
