Plays take center stage among entertainment options

SANDPOINT — Theater fans and lovers of comedy are in luck this week, as there are plays at NIC and the Circle Moon Theater, as well as comics on stage at both the Panida and Pearl theaters.

It’s the final weekend of Harvest Fest out at Hickey Farms, so get out and pick those pumpkins as you enjoy live entertainment and family fun.

And the local watering holes have a stellar line-up of live sounds to choose from.

Thursday, Oct. 19

‘Five Women Wearing the Same Dress’

Venue: NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center, 1000 W. Garden Ave., in Coeur d’Alene.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

This funny, irreverent play by Alan Ball concerns five reluctant bridesmaids hiding out in an upstairs bedroom from an ostentatious wedding reception. Secrets are revealed and choices questioned, creating a common bond between them as well as moments of humor and pathos.

The play contains mature themes and language; it is not intended for children. No infants, please.

Friday, Oct. 20

‘Monster House’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

Kinderhaven, Bonner General Health and Finan MacDonald have partnered to bring this fun Halloween-themed movie ‘Monster House’ to the Panida for free!

Kids come in costume for a parade across the stage and win prizes.

Admission: Free and open to the public.

Devon Wade

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

That’s right, Devon is back in the Beer Hall for the third Friday of October. Devon is an independent country music artist out of Sandpoint with a strong love for what country music has always been, songs about real life. Come hear his fun boot tapping tunes.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Daniel Mills

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Daniel’s lyrical music will catch your ear and work its way into your heart.

Andrea Harsell & Luna Roja at 219 Lounge

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Andrea Harsell & Luna Roja are a potent quartet with a natural chemistry that can be felt as they blend elements of Americana, Rock, and R&B into their own sound. Filled with songs about the human experience, social issues, love and love lost, the show is high energy and feels good. Come on and feel good!

‘Clockwork’

Venue: Circle Moon Theater, located on Highway 211, 3 1/2 miles north of Highway 2, near Newport, Wash.

Time: 6:30 p.m. dinner service, curtain opens at 7:30 p.m. (additional show on Oct. 21)

The trouble begins when Leon Dunwoody tells his uncle the hysterical story of how he wrenched up his leg and dies laughing – literally! Northwoods Performing Arts presents ‘Clockwork,’ a complete night of murder, mayhem, and outrageous laughter!

‘Comedy with Friends’

Time: 8 p.m.

Comedy with Friends blends storytelling, sketch comedy, and stand up comedy. Meet comedian and author Phillip Kopczynski, a regular at clubs and corporate gigs in western United States and Canada. His comedy weaves storytelling and swift punch lines in a ridiculous narrative that includes his family and the insanity of modern life.

Harvest Festival

Venue: Hickey Farms, 674 Hickey Rd., just east of Kootenai.

Time: 10:30 a.m.-dusk

U-pick pumpkins, face painting, crafts and loads of kids activities, food vendors and live entertainment by Star the Magician and others all day. This is an amazing family event, not to be missed!

Donna Donna and Cattywomp

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Donna Donna, a high-energy duo will rock your world. Classic blues rock with some extra special fun times influenced by Jefferson Airplane, Jack White and Janis Joplin.

Cattywomp, formed from a longtime collaborative project, is bringing live rock and roll to venues around the Northwest. The band is comprised of six members, who each have distinctly different musical backgrounds.

Brian Jacobs & Chris Lynch

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Brian Jacobs and Chris Lynch are teaming up for an exciting night of Live Music in Sandpoint! They are a fun duo with a great sound that will have you on the dance floor. Come by to hear them, grab some pints, play some games and enjoy. Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Andy Sydow Band

Venue: Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash St., in Bonners Ferry.

Time: Doors open at 7 p.m., concert starts at 8 p.m.

The Andy Sydow Band is going to rock the Pearl Theater, with Pail Bonnell & Friends tearing it up as the opening act.

TedX Spokane is a culmination of over 35 auditions over the past year, which have helped to build and curate this celebration of innovative thinking and groundbreaking ideas. The speaker/performer line-up is mostly regional professionals showcasing their expertise with the theme ‘Predictors and Prognosticators,’ telling the future of the future.

Spokane Symphony Classics: ‘Tales of Tragedy’

Venue: Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave., in Spokane.

Piano Month continues when superstar Conrad Tao returns to perform Saint-Saëns’ exquisite Piano Concerto No. 2, one of the most challenging works of the piano repertoire. The concerto is book-ended by three stirring tone poems about what Maestro Preu calls ‘anti-heroes’ – Franck’s brilliant ‘The Accursed Huntsman,’ Richard Strauss’ somber take on Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ and the charming tale of a peasant rogue in ‘Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks,’ also by Strauss.

‘The Way’

Venue: Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash St., in Bonners Ferry.

Time: 6 p.m.

‘The Way’ is a powerful story about family and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an American doctor who comes to St. Jean Pied de Port, France to collect the remains of his adult son (Emilio Estevez), killed in the Pyrenees in a storm while walking the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James.
