Sept. 5, 1967 — FIRE STORM
The incredible advance of the Sundance fire will be the worst fire story of the season for the entire Forest Service. Breaking out between Coolin and Sundance Mountain last Tuesday, it enlarged by the next day to over 2,000 acres. By Thursday it was raging towards the summit. Strong winds came up Friday, increasing that evening to build Sundance into a fire storm likened to bombing holocausts in European cities in WWII. Winds within the storm mounted to incredible speeds, causing tree trunks over two feet in diameter to be snapped off and sucked into the blaze.

Sept. 5, 1917 — DUNNE GETS DONE
Mr. Dunne, the erstwhile daily newspaper editor of Sandpoint, has left these parts, leaving another obituary to be written in the daily newspaper field of Sandpoint. Dunne last spring went to Clarksfork and resurrected the old plant of the Clarksfork Times, moribund these many years. He told the Clarksfork folks he would get out their weekly again for them and collected money for that purpose. Then he loaded the outfit on the train and brought it to Sandpoint. With much elbow grease and an industry worthy of a better cause Dunne got out the Sandpoint edition of the Clarksfork Times until news reached him of a local attorney’s receipt of inquiries from the east wanting to know if a little matter of a judgment against Dunne was collectable. A transfer of the paper was made immediately. The paper is still in existence but in other hands. Dunne is done.

FORD TAKEN FROM THE CHURCH
While M. Amende, a rancher living below Dover, was attending services at the Methodist church Sunday his Ford automobile was taken from out in front of the church. The thieves drove the auto to Clarksfork where it was run off the grade near Frank Schussman’s ranch. The sheriff and Mr. Amende went there Tuesday. The windshield and top were smashed, but the automobile was brought in under its own power. No clue was obtained to the authors of the theft.
