Sravasti Abbey in Newport is holding a four-week meditation and discussion series on the topic of compassion.
The series on “Developing a Compassionate Open-Hearted Life” will be held at the Create Arts Center in Newport from Sept. 11 to Oct. 2.
The program will talk about how be a compassionate person, even when you’re not sure what compassion actually is. While holding other people with friendly regard and wishing to help them might sound like risky business, Tibet’s Dalai Lama says that developing compassion is the key to happiness and joy.
Join Semkye and Tsepal — Buddhist nuns from Sravasti Abbey Monastery in Newport —for the program. It’s a chance to explore what compassion is, its many benefits, how to develop it, and how it can lead to a happier, more peaceful life.
The series will be held on Monday, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Create Art Center, 900 W. Fourth, Newport.
