The mayor’s opinion is so much longer than a limitation of 250 words. Here goes. The mischaracterization of President Donald Trump’s words after Charlottesville has recently been revealed to be dishonest and misleading. Now more and more “authorities” are beginning to include Antifa as a hateful and violent group. Our mayor should have included Antifa along with the KKK as repugnant. Why did he not?

The hateful and erroneous flyers also are repugnant. Yet the mayor does not reveal who is responsible for them. Daily we see once reputable news organizations spreading false information. It is not correct to blame any group unless proof is provided. “It is far easier and feels much safer to accept misinformation that supports one’s beliefs than it is … to align with the truth.” (Rongstad)

The mayor’s catchwords of “redistribution of wealth,” “social and economic privilege,” “global politic,” “institutionalized racism, white supremacy and privilege,” and an “equitable, just society” are the type of divisive phrases used every day by the socialists tearing at the fabric of the U.S. The desire for power or wealth is the end goal of those pretenders. Fear merely is a tool.

The mayor knows that if he had correctly quoted from the U.S. Declaration of Independence he would have had to attribute the words “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” to Thomas Jefferson. We often have seen many who want power avoid honest attribution. Perhaps this is what Ginny Deane meant.
