Badgers sweep Wampus Cats
BONNERS FERRY — The Wampus Cats showed some grit in the second set, but struggled to find a rhythm against the Badgers in a straight set 25-11, 26-24, 25-14 loss on Monday night in nonleague volleyball at Bonners Ferry High School.
Brooke Stevens finished with 18 set assists, Hailey Bristol five kills and six digs, and Ellie Lambert six digs in defeat for the Wampus Cats (6-1), who finished 1-1 against 3A competition in the nonleague slate.
The Cats struggled in the first game with service receive and dug a quick 11-0 hole on the first serve run of the game for the Badgers.
“They were tentative at first playing a school at the higher level. But we were ahead 18-17 in the second game and lost 24-26. We actually had five missed serves which could have won us the game,” lamented Wampus Cats coach Cindy Derr. “They played well as a team that (set) but broke down again in the third set and couldn’t get a rhythm flowing. Back to the drawing board with working on our service receive and serving, we had 12 service errors for the night.
