Performing Arts Series announced
Music. Dance. Drama. If you’re the least bit interested in diverse entertainment unlike anything you’ve seen in years, you’ll want to get your season ticket to Pend Oreille Arts Council’s 2017-18 Performing Arts Series. From thought-provoking theatrical performances to world-class musical shows, this year’s lineup has something for everyone in the family.
Get your tickets early and show your support for POAC’s Educational Programs such as Kaleidoscope that in partnership with CAL brings hands-on art classes to our elementary school children and Ovations that will bring these professional entertainers to our middle and high school students for workshops and demonstrations.
Go to artinsandpoint.org or stop by the POAC office at 302 N. First Avenue, Sandpoint. You won’t want to miss a single minute of these spectacular events:
- The Dustbowl Revival with Shakewell — Oct. 13, 7 p.m., Panida.
POAC partners with Mattox Farm Productions to present The Dustbowl Revival, whose joyous Americana soul vibes won them “the best live band in LA” recognition by LA Weekly. One night only with Missoula’s Shakewell as the opening act, thumping out funk and soul to get the party started.
- Walden: The Ballad of Thoreau — Nov. 3-4, 7 p.m., Heartwood Center.
POAC partners with Unknown Locals Productions to present Walden by Michael Johnathon. Equal parts charmingly funny and sincerely serious, the two-act play discusses our relationship with the environment through the banter between Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson during Thoreau’s last days at Walden Pond. The performance will feature local actors and student set and costume designers.
- Eugene Ballet’s Nutcracker — Dec. 3, 7 p.m. Panida.
It’s a time-honored community tradition and a kick-off to the holiday season when local ballet students join Eugene Ballet Company’s professional dancers onstage in Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet.
- Living Voices’ Klondike: The Last Adventure — Jan. 26, 7 p.m., Heartwood Center.
This live storytelling performance is based on real events and tells the tale of Eliza, a young woman who braves the perilous journey to the Yukon in search of gold and opportunity. Her resilience and motivations are repeatedly tested in “the last great adventure” of 1897, includes historical photos and video presentation.
- Montreal Guitare Trio — Feb. 11, 7:30 p.m., Panida.
The virtuosic classical guitar trio of Marc Morin, Glenn Levésque, and Sébastien Dufour pay tribute to the great composers of Spanish music, including Paco de Lucia and Manuel de Falla, in their Danzas concert.
- Celebration of Community: Wellspring — March 23, 7:30 p.m. Heartwood Center.
For the first time, the Pend Oreille Arts Council presents a showcase of some of the best underexposed local musical talent. We will toast the hardworking performing artists with a reception preceding the performance.
- Missoula Children’s Theatre: Aladdin — April 21, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Panida. Over 50 local students join two teaching artists onstage for this year’s creative retelling of the story of Aladdin. Songs, dance routines and spoken lines are all learned in a week of rehearsals. You will be amazed at this performance. It’s an entertaining experience for the whole family.
