Shaha, Marshall power Bulldogs to big road win

MOSCOW — Senior Casey Shaha scored two goals and dished out an assist, and senior Hadley Marshall notched a goal and assist, helping lead the Bulldogs to a solid 4-1 win over the Bears in a 4A Inland Empire League girls soccer opener on Tuesday in Moscow.

The Bulldogs (4-0-1, 1-0 4A IEL) showed little rust after a two week span between games, with Central Valley and Lakeland both canceled for air quality purposes. Shaha, who now has six goals in five games, set the tone early in the attack, scoring in the 8th minute.

“Casey was outstanding for us up front, creating a number of chances,” praised Bulldogs head coach Conor Baranski, whose team spent last week indoors. “All in all, coming off a week off due to the smoke, it was a good game for us to get back into a rhythm.”

The Bulldogs, who are off to a strong start to the season, took care of business on the road, which is always a challenge in league play. Holly Kassa added an insurance goal in the second half, the ninth Bulldog to score this season in a show of strong depth.

“Moscow was very organized defensively, and we struggled to solve the problems presented to us. The scoreline flatters us a bit because it was not as one-sided as it looks,” admitted Baranski. “Yet again we scored four goals in a game and it could have been more.”

Sandpoint will hit the road for a stiff test against Greater Spokane League foe University on Thursday.
