Vanderford's hosts Mangan book-signing

SANDPOINT — Vanderford’s Books is hosting a book-signing event with author Lt. Col. John Mangan on Saturday.
Mangan will be on hand from noon to 2 p.m. The event is sponsored by Jay and Barbee Buchanan, Mangan’s aunt and uncle.
Mangan is touring in support of his latest effort, “Into a Dark Frontier.” The book tells the story of a future in which Africa collapses, leaving the continent lawless and severely depopulated. The breakdown brings horror and a new frontier of danger and unlimited possibility.
In America, the protagonist, ex-Navy SEAL Slade Crawford, is emotionally crippled after 20 years of front-line combat, the dissolution of his marriage and the accidental death of his son. He is also falsely accused of orchestrating terrorism and flees the states to build a new life and escape his past, but is captured by an former colonel and blackmailed into tracking down a blood cult rampaging across the sub-Sahara.

Mangan is a decorated combat rescue pilot, novelist and coffeehouse poet. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, was an instructor at the Survival Escape Resistance & Evasion school, and is currently an HH-60G, Pave Hawk instructor pilot. He has deployed to the Middle East eight times and has commanded the 33rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron in Kandahar, Afghanistan. His actions in combat have been documented in the books “Not a Good Day to Die,” “None Braver” and “Zero Six Bravo.” He has flown combat missions with PJs, SEALs, Delta, Rangers, and the SAS. John has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor twice, The Air Medal twelve times, and the 2009 Cheney Award.
