Re: Sandpoint Limited Visibility Intersections with Diagonal Parking

Idaho Code 49-807: Stop and yield signs, allows drivers three options when coming to an intersection that has limited visibility:

… “(2) Every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop sign shall stop:

(a) at a clearly marked stop line, or

(b) before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or

(c) at the point nearest the intersecting highway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting highway before entering it.”

So, Sandpoint drivers can slowly go part way into a limited visibility intersection, i.e., one with diagonal parking that limits visibility, in order to verify that it’s safe to proceed with crossing or turning into the intersection. One doesn’t need to “roll the dice” when trying to navigate these intersection when IC 49-807 gives drivers 3 options.
