Burgstahler fourth at Luther

DECORAH, Iowa — Saint John’s senior Matthew Burgstahler, a former Bulldog soccer, basketball and track athlete, finished fourth overall and second among collegiate runners with a time of 21:06 as SJU opened its 2017 cross country season with a win out of six teams Saturday at the 4-mile Luther Invitational.

The Johnnies had three runners finish in the top 10 for a total of 49 points, followed in second place by Augustana of Illinois (53) and Luther’s alumni (58).

The Johnnies return to action in two weeks when they host their alumni on Saturday, Sept. 23, in Collegeville.
