In times of crisis America has had rallying cries that have brought us together to face a common foe: Remember the Alamo, remember Pearl Harbor, remember 9/11, remember Benghazi. These were to remind us of what happened when the enemy came against us and lives were lost, to remember those who died and those who dared great things for others and for our country. They remind us of the high standards this nation was founded on.
It’s not only in times of war or terrorism we see selfless acts of bravery and compassion, but also in times of devastating floods and horrific wildfires, and it’s not only military, nor law enforcement, nor firemen nor first responders. Some are what we would call ordinary folks, but they’re really not “ordinary” at all. To all these men and women we give our heartfelt gratitude and prayers of thanks.
Jesus said, “No greater love has one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” And that brings to mind one other very important “remember” — remember the cross. “For God so loved the world that He gave His own dearly loved Son so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
So never forget our heroes and what they have done for us, and remember our greatest hero of all, Jesus, who gave everything.
