Sept. 28, 1967 — SLOP-OVER FIRE

A 40-acre slop-over fire, (one that has jumped over control lines), occurred Sunday on the Sundance fire, and was controlled late Monday.

Fire danger is extreme, with continued warm dry conditions forecast for the next few days. High temperatures combined with unusually low humidity cause fires to burn with great intensity, making their control difficult.

Sept. 28, 1917 — SOME HOG

Ed Steiner of Westmond came to town Tuesday and showed that while pigs may be pigs hogs are hogs. He sold a porker weighing 380 pounds and received for the same 16 cents a pound. Simple multiplication shows Mr. Steiner was enriched by $60.50 and inasmuch as the porker was fed on skim milk it was almost all profit. That enterprising farmer is wreathed in smiles these days.

GOOD WEATHER FOR STREET FAIR

Bonner county’s two days’ street fair is under way. Fine weather marked the opening day with promise of another fine September day tomorrow.

Field and garden exhibits are displayed on Main street and the old Thomason Bros. store is being used for the exhibits of canned goods, needlework, small fruits, etc.

The schoolyard is used for drills of Company H which at 3 o’clock gave a bayonet drill. There was also a flagraising on school grounds of the flags of all nations. Tonight is a dance at the rink and tomorrow night a dance on the pavement.

CITY BREVITIES

Court house offices were filled with garden and farm products last night, brought for display at the fair. The committee had no place to store displays and thus pressed the county offices into use.
