Marilyn Gladys (Jones) Kamp

| September 28, 2017 1:00 AM

Marilyn Gladys (Jones) Kamp was born Aug. 11, 1932 in Wenatchee, Wash., to Harold Francis Jones and Alberta (Passenger) Jones. She passed away on a beautiful, sunny Sunday, Sept 24, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, with her family at her side. She will be laid to rest in Spokane, Wash., next to her beloved brother, Tom and her mother.

After the Great Depression, Marilyn’s family moved from Wenatchee to Spokane, where she grew up, graduating from Lewis and Clark High School in 1950. She worked for 11 years in insurance, until her marriage in 1961 to Robert David Kamp. Bob was in the Marine Corps and the family transferred in California in 1964. Marilyn worked at the Country Club in the evenings learning the hospitality industry. The Kamps moved to Sandpoint in 1970 to property they had purchased in the Colburn area. There they learned about farm life, which she loved.

After a few years they bought the Colburn store, which was a great experience for them. After 20 years, Marilyn and Bob divorced and Marilyn took a job managing the Monarch Inn in Ponderay, and then managing the Cavanaugh in Moscow and finally, opened her own business The Page House Bed and Breakfast on Sand Creek. She loved the Page House and operated it successfully alone, for 10 years. During these years she worked with the chamber, Downtown Business Association and was on the board of the Selkirk Loop.

After her retirement, she volunteered at the Bonner County HIstory Museum and St Joseph’s Catholic Church, where she was a faithful parishioner. When Marilyn’s health forced her to retire from her volunteer work, she was greatly saddened. She loved being an active part of the Sandpoint community. Marilyn spent the last few months of her life at the Restorium in Bonners Ferry. She immediately made friends there and was happy to be part of such a wonderful group of people.

Marilyn loved her large and growing family. Her greatest joy was the successes of her children and grandchildren. She had an entire room in her house dedicated to photos, trophies and memorabilia that showcased her family.

Marilyn and Bob had three children, Mollie Farber-Mahoney, Slate (Donna Balison) Kamp, and Betsy Kamp Ross ( Dick Ross); and adopted son Michael Kamp (deceased). She is also survived by Bob’s two children, Rodney Kamp and Kristine Kamp; her grandchildren, Brian( Kristi) Farber, Brent (Michelle) Carter, Taylor (Megan) Carter, Dillon (Erin Bradetich) Carter, Dash Kamp, Kix Kamp, Jake (Sofia Carlson) Howell, Samantha ( Mike) Roach, and Steven Kamp; and her great-grandchildren, Arie Lux Farber, Landon and Jordan Carter, Owen, Max and Lincoln Roach.

No services will be held, at Marilyn’s request. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to: The Restorium, 6619 Kaniksu St., Bonners Ferry, Idaho 83805; 208-267-2453.
