Jacey's Race honored as top business
SANDPOINT — The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce would like to extend congratulations to Jacey’s Race as the organization’s Business of the Month. Chamber officials said the group was being recognized for its commitment to supporting children in the community.
Jacey’s Race started when four year old Jacelyn (Jacey) Lawson was diagnosed with a Stage IV Wilm’s Tumor. The community rallied around her and her family and founded Jacey’s Race, a non-profit organization that helps kids with cancer or other life threatening illnesses. Jacey is now a junior at college and cancer free. She and her family continue to run the race every summer and help other kids like Jacey.
Jacey’s Race is an annual timed 5K race for people of all ages, with medals for the top three competitors of various age groups, and cash prizes to the overall male and female winners. In addition, there’s a 1K walk/fun run for children and parents that aren’t timed and fun activities for kids.
Nearly a thousand community members were in attendance at the 2017 Jacey’s Race event. Some ran the 5K, some ran or walked the 1K, and many volunteered. Those attending the annual event enjoyed tasting and voting on the best chili at the Ponderay Rotary tent and cooling off with snow cones or a splash in the dunk tank during the 2017 Expo. Four local families were the beneficiaries this year as well as Community Cancer Services and the pediatric unit at Bonner General Health.
Jacey’s Race is completely funded through community and volunteer fundraising as well as donations. Their volunteers work very hard each year to raise money for the deserving children of the community. Money raised goes primarily to families of children with cancer, severe or life-threatening illness, and donations to Community Cancer Services and the Pediatric Department at Bonner General Health.
Please join the Chamber in congratulating Jacey’s Race as the Business of the Month, and we look forward to supporting Jacey’s Race in the community for many years to come. To learn more, call 208-610-8023, find them on Facebook or visit them online at jaceys-race.com.
