James Steven Gaston, 65

James Steven Gaston, 65, died on April 1, 2018, at Virginia Mason Memorial.

James was born on August 27, 1952, the son of Wesley and Dorothy (Daniels) Gaston in Yakima, Washington. The family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, where James grew up and graduated from high school.

After graduation he married his high school sweetheart and welcomed their daughter, Tammy, into the family. During this time, he enlisted in the Army, and served for eight years as an avionic mechanic, receiving many commendations and awards, including his expert marksmanship badge.

James was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was an accomplished billiards player. He was an avid collector, specializing in coins. He thoroughly enjoyed photography, taking pictures whenever he had the opportunity. James has had a love for dogs since he was young, always having a dog at the house.

James is survived by his daughter, Tammy Gaston-Davis (Mike Poulin); his grandchildren, Parker Davis, Rock Earnest, and Kiera Earnest; his loving niece and caretaker, Jaime Haskins (Craig Boles); and great-nephews, Jaden Haskins, and Jeff Boles. He is also survived by his sisters, Louise, Barbara, Evelyn, Dorothy, Patty, Janice, and Carol; and a brother, Wayne; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, William.
