Kren, Martin power Spartans in blowout of Troy

PRIEST RIVER — Jasmine Martin ripped a triple and drove in four runs, and Liann Kren had two hits and four RBIs to lead Priest River to a 19-2 dispatching of Troy recently in nonleague softball at Priest River Middle School.

The Spartans (2-4) plated a whopping 12 runs in the third inning and another seven in fourth to break the game open and account for all of their scoring.

Cassandra Deremer, Natalie Randolph and Kren had hits to start the rally, followed by a triple by Martin and a double by Samantha Kendle to key the inning.

Tawny Nichols picked up the win, allowing just two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out six.

The Spartans racked up 11 hits, with Kren, Kendle, Deremer and Randolph all getting multiple hits, Randolph, with Randolph adding two steals, three runs and three RBIs.

n Spartans blanked by Blackhawks

The Spartans ran into a buzz saw, as Shyla Courchaine spun a no-hitter and struck out eight, leading Cheney to a 11-0 win over Priest River in nonleague softball.

Natalie Randolph took the loss for Spartans, lasting all five innings, allowing 12 hits and striking out two on 88 pitches.

The Spartans are at Riverside on Monday.

n Durham, Parks, Marks lead Spartan track team in Deer Park

DEER PARK, Wash. — Senior Konner Durham won the 300 hurdles (44.63), and was third in the 110 high hurdles, helping lead the Priest River boys team to a 10th place finish among 15 teams last Saturday at the Deer Park Invite.

Cameron Parks scored a bunch of points as well, finishing second in the long jump (19-4), third in the high jump (5-10) and 9th in the 1,600 (5:09), while Spencer Sedgwick finished 6th in the 100 (12.09) and 10th in the 200 (25.67), Evan Barnes 10th in the shot put (33-11) and John Taylor 10th in the triple jump (32-01) to round out the Spartan boys in the top 10.

Marks, a freshman, finished 4th in the 400 (1:10) and 7th in the high jump (4-0) to lead the Spartan girls to an 11th place finish among 14 teams.

Other top 10 girls finishes included Amber Johnston 6th in the 3,200 (14:29), Cassia Gleason 6th in the 400 (1:20), Kymara Fulton 7th in the 1,600 (6:48), Izzy Schmidt 7th in the 800 (2:51) and 10th in the 3,200 (14:55), Shayla Martinez 10th in the 100 (14.86) and Chelsea Brown 10th in the 200 (32.77).

The girls 4x400 relay of Johnston, Schmidt, Marks and Martinez was 5th in 4:56, while the boys 4x100 relay of Robbie Anselmo, Colter Lee, Sedgwick and Barnes was 8th in 50.33, and Durham, Parks, Dylan Glazier and Brandon McCracken were 7th in the 4x400 (4:01) to round out the relay placers.

The Spartans are at an Intermountain League double dual in Kellogg on Wednesday.
