SANDPOINT — Rolling into April, we have always-interesting weather and a great, local slate of events.

Tonight, it’s stand up comedy at the Panida Little Theater, followed by more live comedy Saturday night at the 219 Lounge. The Panida shows the film ‘Bombshell’ starting this evening and running through the weekend.

On Sunday do not miss the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint’s fundraiser for the Panida, as Bel Canto Opera Northwest teams up with the Pend Oreille Chorale under the direction of Mark and Caren Reiner in a performance that features dancer Autumn Whitley and cellist Sam Minker.

Backing up a day, Saturday brings the 27th annual Lou Domanski Chess Festival at Sandpoint Community Hall.

‘Bro-Dads’ Comedy Show

Venue: Panida Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

You loved them the first time they were here, just wait to hear what they have in store for you this time. Harry J Riley and Phil Kopczynski are Bro-Dads ... you don’t get closer than that! Seating in the Little Theater is limited so get your tickets fast.

Devon is an independent country music artist out of Sandpoint with a strong love for what country music has always been — songs about real life. Admission: Free to those 21 and over.

Casey Ryan

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 p.m.

Making his Sandpoint debut at the Niner, Casey is an indie singer-songwriter out of the Pacific Northwest. He has performed and toured with globally touring artists such as James Bay, Third Eye Blind, Dashboard Confessional, and more.

Bright Moments Jazz

Tasty jazz from one of Sandpoint’s finest bands — and on a spring night upon the Cedar Street Bridge, to boot. Sounds like a plan.

Saturday, April 7

Lou Domanski Chess Festival

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, in Sandpoint.

Time: 9 a.m. start, festival ends at 5 p.m.

Held in honor of its founder and longtime coordinator, Lou Domanski, chess enthusiasts are invited to be part of this one-day chess tournament. There are three divisions, splitting up players by age with differing entry fees.

Entry Fees: Elementary age division for grades 1-6 has a $5 entry fee; middle school/high school division for grades 7-12 are $6; and the open division has a $7 entry fee.

Dodgy Mountain Men

Dodgy Mountain Men sling a home-brewed Montana stompgrass that goes down smooth but packs a bite, mixing the rhythms of bluegrass, the soul of the blues and the energy of rock ‘n’ roll with a plethora of other musical traditions to create a unique electro-acoustic experience.

Stand-up Comedy

Time: Doors at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.

Be part of setting a Guinness World Record as the 219 Lounge hosts the kick-off show for nationally known comedians Morgan Preston, James Heneghen and Justin Hayes as they embark on a mission to perform a comedy show in each of the 50 states in 50 or less days.

After the show, DJ Josh will be spinning favorite tunes from 10:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m.

‘Journey of Light’

This opera experience embarks on a journey to find the illuminous light. Journey of the Light is a collaborative performance with the Pend Oreille Chorale under the direction of Mark and Caren Reiner, and features dancer Autumn Whitley and cellist Sam Minker.

Bel Canto Opera Northwest and the Panida Theater are excited to collaborate in an effort to continue to light the marquee at the Panida Theater for many years to come. All profits from this event will be donated toward the continued success of the Panida.
