Idaho Gives eyes $1.5 million goal

| April 6, 2018 1:00 AM

Idaho employers are gearing up for Idaho Gives — Idaho’s largest day of online giving, organized by the Idaho Nonprofit Center — and have big plans to help local nonprofits have their biggest fundraising day yet. While Idaho Gives is still a month away on May 3, there are many ways to start preparing.

First, nonprofit organizations must register by April 15 in order to receive Idaho Gives donations and share in the over $50,000 in award pool prizes that will be given out throughout the day. Registration is easy and can be done at IdahoGives.org. Nonprofits that register will have their own page on the Idaho Gives website, and donors will be able to locate them quickly by county, city, or mission.

Second, employer participation is key to reaching the $1.5 million goal set for this year’s Idaho Gives campaign. Idaho Central Credit Union, the presenting sponsor for Idaho Gives, recognizes the economic and social impact that Idaho nonprofits bring to the state, including adding $2.81 billion to Idaho’s economy and over 55,000 jobs annually — and challenges employers to start planning their Idaho Gives participation now.

“Idaho employers play an integral role in the success of Idaho Gives, and it’s our responsibility to inform employees about the opportunity to give, encourage them to learn about the nonprofit work going on in their communities, and for us to give both as a company and personally,” said Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) President/CEO Kent Oram.

Last year, nearly 100 Idaho employers partnered with the Idaho Nonprofit Center to participate in Idaho Gives, which raised over $1.3 million for Idaho nonprofits. This year many are already putting their Idaho Gives plans in motion.

Idaho Central and PacificSource Health Plans will match employee donations to their charity of choice, while Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in southeast Idaho will promote Idaho Gives through their social media platforms and internal communications. “As one of the major supporters for Idaho Gives, we want to share information about this important event and provide our employees with the ability to easily support the Idaho nonprofit agencies of their choice,” said Lori Priest, community relations program manager for INL.

How Employers can get involved in Idaho Gives:

- Hang Idaho Gives posters at your business

- Add Idaho Gives branding to your email signature

- Promote the event on reader boards and business signs

- Send emails to employees encouraging them to donate on May 3

- Loan your company billboard or other advertising space to Idaho Gives

- Host a Giving Station at your business or nonprofit of choice

- Add Idaho Gives flyers to shopping bags, billing inserts, employee communication, etc.

- Share Idaho Gives information via your social media channels

- Encourage your favorite charity to sign up at IdahoGives.org

- Attend an Idaho Gives celebration or organize your own.

“Supporting Idaho Gives is a no-brainer for us. We hope other employers will see how easy and fun it is to be involved and find their own unique ways to participate,” added Oram.

Idaho Central is joined by major underwriters: PacificSource Health Plans, Idaho National Laboratory, and KTVB who will be covering the event widely. KTVB chooses several charities to highlight leading up to May 3.

Idaho Gives — a program of the Idaho Nonprofit Center — is designed to bring the state together, raising money and awareness for Idaho nonprofits.
