April 8, 1968 – GOOD FRIDAY OBSERVED

Five local pastors will be on the program for the Good Friday union service at First Lutheran Church, Olive at Ontario, in Sandpoint during the noon hour of April 12.

The Rev. Thomas Rodda, St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church, will bring the sermon. Others assisting on the program are the Rev. Fred Rarden, Methodist pastor, president of the Bonner County Ministerial Assn, the Rev. Charles Wigton, First Christian pastor, vice president; the Rev. Don Taylor, First Lutheran pastor; and the Rev. Clarence Twigg, Presbyterian pastor, chairman of the planning committee.

SAFETY AWARDS HANDED OUT

Northern Lights, Inc. recently handed out awards for safe driving. Topping the list with 27 years credit was Floyd Smith. With him were Wilbur Page, 20 years; Ralph Harbison, 19 years; Aubrey Bennett, 18 years; Jake Iverson, 17 years; George Cassidy, Paul Needham and Rich Gerstenberger, 15 years; Gordon Garrison and Robert Klatt, 11 years; William Nordeen, seven years; Art Miller, six years; Carl Duncan and Bob Geenen, three years; Cy Harbison, Vern Stolz, Erval Rainey, Don Welter and Jack Pierce, one year.

April 8, 1918 – SPUDS ANYONE?

The Review doesn’t know what to advise about spuds this year. Last year we advised planting spuds everywhere, and spuds were the only farm product that fell off in price. If we don’t advise planting them of course they will become scarce and prices will be high; if we advise planting, everybody plants and the price goes down. And some don’t think it pays to advertise.

NEWS FROM KOOTENAI

Benjamin Stockman, one of the seven young men drafted from Bonner county, left Tuesday evening for American Lake.

The Camp Fire Girls play was appreciated by a large audience. Five dollars of the proceeds were turned over to the Red Cross; the remainder will be used for supplies for the girls. In one part of the play canned fruit was used, which after the program was auctioned off, adding to the profits.

YOUNG LADIES ORGANIZE WAR SOCIETY

Under a call from the treasury department, Sandpoint’s first war-savings society organized Tuesday when twelve young ladies met at Mrs. Williams’ on Third street and organized as the Sunset War Savings Society, the name being in complement to the Sunset division as the northwestern troops are known. The object of the society is for members to save for investment in thrift and war stamps. In addition the society will at each meeting sew for the Belgian refugees and a program upon war topics will be given.
