An Inexplicable panoply of entertainment awaits

SANDPOINT – The inexplicable panoply of entertainment options speaks for itself this week. Along with a crazy amount of live music, there are two musicals on tap, a couple of films on screen and Sandpoint Rotary hosts a gala event to help support the East Bonner County Library.

Thursday, April 12

Open Mic with Kevin Dorin

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

MickDuff’s Beer Hall and Kevin Dorin are excited to welcome all local artists over 21 years of age for a fun and open night of playing at the Beer Hall. Come out for a positive environment to share your passion or just come to take it all in. All levels of performers are welcome. The set will be recorded live and artists will have access to the audio. Also, this an opportunity for you to work with a professional sound guy who will work to mic you up and get your levels to show the best version of you.

‘The Square’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Oscar nominated for Best Foreign Film. Christian is the respected curator of a contemporary art museum, a divorced but devoted father of two who drives an electric car and supports good causes. His next show is ‘The Square,’ an installation that invites passersby to altruism, reminding them of their role as responsible fellow human beings. But sometimes, it is difficult to live up to your own ideals: Christian’s foolish response to the theft of his phone drags him into some shameful situations.

‘Shrek The Musical’

Venue: Sandpoint High School Auditorium, 410 S. Division St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m. (Additional shows on April 14, 19, 20 and 21)

“Once upon a time, in a far away swamp …” Take a funny story, add music and a sprinkling of dance and voila – you have a musical theater production.

Add in about 70 Sandpoint-area youth as well as a good number of talented adults and you have magic! ‘Shrek The Musical,’ presented by Growing Dreams Productions Inc. and Sandpoint High School Mime & Masque, takes the stage in the SHS auditorium.

Admission: $12 adult, $10 children 10 and under; except for the Family Matinee on April 14 ($7 children) and Student Discount Show on April 19 (students 18 and under $10). Tickets available on Brown Paper Tickets, Eve’s Leaves and from cast members.

‘Twelfth Night’

Venue: The Heartwood Center, 615 Oak St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m. (Additional show on April 14)

One of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies gets hilarious and action-packed 1940’s redux in Unknown Locals’ newest production. Adapted and directed by Jeremiah and Skye Campbell, this fast-paced, witty romance is full of cross-dressing, mistaken identity, hi-jinks and true love.

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Celebrate the joys of community by dancing. Live music will be provided by Red Herring and all dances will be called by Emily Faulkner. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive for an introductory dance at 7 p.m. Bring clean, comfortable, non-marking shoes to dance in.

Kerry Leigh

Kerry’s great, harmonious voice and cool melodies will have you asking for more.

Ron Greene with Justyn Priest & Brian Burke

As a soloist Greene’s intimate stage presence has gained him a reputation as a passionate singer and. paired with his two friends, it’s a full fun sound that rocks house.

Down South Band

Down South is a variety band that is a strongly versed in classic rock, southern rock Texas blues, country rock and Americana.

‘The Work’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Sandpoint Men’s Group brings ‘The Work’ to the Panida screen. Set in Folsom State Prison, a group of volunteers lead convicts through four days of intensive group therapy, revealing an intimate and powerful portrait of authentic human transformation that transcends what we think of as rehabilitation.

‘Novel Night Gala’

Venue: Columbia Bank Atrium, 414 Church St. in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30 p.m.

Dress as your favorite literary character as Sandpoint Rotary hosts a sublime evening of cocktails, dinner catered by Tango Café, live auction music and dancing! The event benefits the Sandpoint Library Transformation project. Catering by Tango Café.

Rotary Club of Sandpoint will donate proceeds from this event toward funding the expanded Sandpoint Library, as well as Rotary projects and services.

Spring Cornhole Tourney

It’s the annual Spring Cornhole Classic as cornhole kings and queens take to outdoor court or inside the brewery where they will have up to four regulation courts set up to test your tossin’ abilities.

After 20 years and running, it’s the end of an important era, as this popular open mic with a literary bent calls it wrap. Writers, poets, musicians and listeners are all welcome for the Five Minutes of Fame open mic night.

Truck Mills with Arthur Goldblum

Famed Sandpoint musician Truck Mills and special guest Arthur Goldblum will be jamming at the Niner! Come out and chill out with friends to great blues, folk, gospel and jazz tunes.
