I am writing this letter in support of Carol Kunzeman for Bonner County commissioner. Carol Kunzeman is running against Commissioner Dan McDonald.

As a board member of CANSS/Citizens against the Newport Silicon Smelter, we have had the opportunity to engage with and work with Carol Kunzeman in our opposition to the massive coal burning silicon smelter the Canadian company HiTest wants to build in Newport Washington, right on the border with Idaho.

This smelter is a serious threat to everyone and everything. Carol Kunzeman is in support of the public's efforts to stop the smelter, while Dan McDonald has done nothing but criticize and put down the public's concerns. Apparently Dan McDonald has not seen all the "No Smelter" signs all over the county. Carol Kunzeman has attended our CANSS public meetings and has supported the public's efforts to protect themselves, their families, properties and communities from the damage and effects the smelter will cause.

Dan McDonald told myself and other members of CANSS if we don’t like the smelter we can sell our homes and move. Dan McDonald has said other things I will not repeat and in my humble opinion is unfit to hold public office. The public deserves much better than Dan McDonald and Carol Kunzeman will serve the public as it should be served.
