Wilks leads Bulldogs in Cd'A

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake Wilks fired a season-best 84 to lead the Bulldog boys to their best team score of the season on Monday at the wet and soggy 11-team Lake City Invitational at the Coeur d’Alene Public Golf Course.

Joel Johnson carded a 90 and Seth McCutchan a 92 for the Bulldog boys, playing on a saturated course with tree-lined fairways. Bulldog head coach Tom Tharp had high praise for the play of his boys team, which shot a season-low team score of 360.

“Lake’s been driving the ball well, and his approach shots are close to the pin. He’s close to breaking into the 70s,” predicted Tharp, noting McCutchan is dropping strokes quickly. “Seth has consistently come down four strokes every time he’s played.”

Freshman CeCe Deprez continues to lead the Bulldog girls, firing a 95 for another round in the mid-90s to start the season. Considering the adverse weather conditions the Bulldogs have persevered through, the scores figure to drop considerably when the weather improves.

“CeCe keeps cruising along. She’ll be in the 80s soon. The boys did remarkably well, and the girls held their own,” said Tharp, qualifying them against the conditions. “On and off rain all day long. This course was extremely wet.”

The Coeur d’Alene boys won with 307, and the Lake City girls won with 367.

The Bulldogs are at the Highlands in Post Falls next Monday.
