n Priest River baseball swept by Bonners Ferry, Kettle Falls

PRIEST RIVER — It’s been a tough start to the season for the young and rebuilding Spartan baseball team, which was swept by Kettle Falls 21-0 and 9-0, then was swept in an IML-opening doubleheader 12-0 and 11-0.

Jantzen Lucas had two hits, and Cole Thompson, Logan Shockey, Caden Brennan and Larry Naccarato one each to lead the Spartans (0-6, 0-2 IML) in defeat against the Badgers (6-2, 2-0 IML).

In the opener, the Badgers jumped out 6-0 in the first inning, before Justin Allbee settled in and pitched well in the loss, as the Spartans allowed only eight hits.

In the second game, the Spartans trailed just 1-0 heading into the third, before the Badgers blew it open.

“We started strong, good pitching, good defense. Jantzen Lucas kept the Bonners hitters off balance and we were putting the ball in play,” said Spartan head coach Mark Schultz. “We were getting runners on base, then we would hit hard line drives at people. Our guys really had some good swings, just not finding the holes. We will go back to practice and work hard.”

Freshman Konner Johnson had the only two hits in the sweep against Kettle Falls (10-2).

The Spartans host Timberlake in a makeup doubleheader today, with first pitch at 3:30 p.m.
