| April 18, 2018 1:00 AM

PINEHURST — In an event that included boys and girls scrambles and best ball competition, St. Maries took home the traveling trophy in Monday’s 18-hole Mullan Invitational at Pinehurst Golf Course.

Tabitha Boller and Gabrielle Harold took first in the girls best ball event, helping the Lumberjacks compile 27 points in the team standings, which were scored similar to a track meet.

“This is the first year we’ve had the traveling trophy and this format. We’re trying to inject a little fun into high school golf at the 1A and 2A level,” Elston said. “It really seemed to work — we received a lot of positive feedback and everyone made it through all 18 holes despite sideways rain, hail and wind.”

Siblings Wade and Brooke Stevens were third in the Jack and Jill Division, and Tessa Sutton and Aleehia Valliere were third in the girls scramble.
