In response to Kandy Brumely’s letter to the editor (Feb. 18, Daily Bee), I would like to set the record straight. I have known Mike Boeck who is the un-named opponent of Heather Scott referenced in the letter. She denigrates state Sen. Shawn Keough, who she also fails to name. As a former chairman of the Bonner County Central Committee I can remember when Edgar Steele and his Aryan Nation thugs made a move to dominate the politics of North Idaho. Mike stepped up to serve his party to bring common sense and decency back to the community. Those who do not participate in our political process do not realize the courage it takes to get involved. It is unfortunate that those who step forward to serve come under these personal attacks. Kandy Burmely’s letter starts with the words “this is no contest.” Well, folks, this is a contest.
Mike has been consistently elected by voters in his precinct because he has performed the essential functions of committeemen. He was Phil Batt’s county coordinator during that governor’s race and was instrumental in the Helen Chenoweth campaign in North Idaho. Every governor since Batt has appointed Mike to the Idaho Forest Products Commission. He recently served on the REDiFIT working group to improve intermodal transportation in the state. Mike was appointed to the committee forming the West Bonner County School District. This small sample of Mike’s volunteer activities is not that of a slacker as suggested by Kandy Brumley.
Remember you have a choice. Vote Mike Boeck for state representative in District 1A Republican on May 15.
