'Shrek' delights with humor, fun

After an exciting opening weekend, the cast and crew of “Shrek the Musical” are gearing up for what promises to be a grand finale weekend. Sold out last week for two of the three shows, with multiple standing ovations, this musical is definitely a crowd pleaser. Even with a fire alarm going off during the last musical number at the Saturday matinee, the crowd really loved this show. The matinee crowd thundered their approval as the enthusiastic cast finished the show out of doors perched upon the picnic tables on the SHS sidewalk by the parking lot.
Adults and children alike are enthusiastically applauding the show for its strong acting and fabulous costumes and props. The singing performances are fabulous and the Dragon puppet (Hope Ambridge as the voice of Dragon) is a favorite with everyone. Donkey (Devin Fredericks) has the crowd roaring with his hilarious quips delivered in perfect timing, as Shrek (Burton Anderson) and Fiona (Jasmine Mearns) bumble hilariously through a strange roller coaster courtship. Lord Farquaad (Zane Rasor) commands the stage as he takes the term “Napoleonic complex” to a whole new level. The ensemble of Fairy Tale creatures, dancers and guards rise to the occasion and complete a perfect balance.
Come and catch the final three shows this weekend — April 19, 20 and 21, at the Sandpoint High School auditorium. Curtain is at 7 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are going fast, so get yours ahead of time. Roses will be available at the play to purchase for your favorite actor or actress.
