Baldree smacks eight hits in split with Hawks

RATHDRUM — Bri Baldree had a huge day for the Bulldogs, leading them to a 14-2 game one win, before Lakeland bounced back for an 18-9 victory in the nightcap and a split of their 4A Inland Empire League softball doubleheader.
Baldree struck out five and scattered three hits in the opener for Sandpoint (4-7, 3-1 4A IEL), and also went 3 for 4 with four RBIs and two runs scored to provide her own run support.
Bri Barlow went 2 for 3 and scored four runs for the Bulldogs, who totaled 15 hits in the opener. Audrey Mattila was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, as the Bulldogs scored 13 runs in the first three innings.
In the second game, Riley Rivera hit a two-run homer in the first inning for Lakeland (3-11, 1-1), and Taylor Woolley hit a two-run shot in the sixth. Abbey Leon went 3 for 4 with three runs, and Mikayla Olson and Allison Russum each had three hits.
Baldree went 5 for 5 and scored three runs in the second game for Sandpoint. Tanis Davis went 4 for 5 and scored three times.
“We cleaned up our errors, and hit well the second game,” Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. “Whereas the first game we came out to play to not lose. We struggled with Baldree the first game. Sandpoint hits really well; they were hitting a lot of gaps (in the opener).”
Sandpoint hosts Timberlake on Monday.
