Little League Opening Day in Sandpoint Saturday

SANDPOINT — Featuring a total of 31 baseball and softball teams and more than 350 players, the 2018 Opening Day for Sandpoint Little League figures to be a festive affair on Saturday, April 21.

The actual ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at War Memorial Field, with teams assembling at 2:45 p.m. All of the teams and their sponsors will be introduced, there will be a live rendition of the National Anthem, the throwing of the ceremonial First Pitch and of course a reading of the Little League Pledge.

Games will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday at both Little Pine Field and Travers Park. The featured game will be played by the two local Juniors teams, with first pitch slated for 4 p.m. at War Memorial Field.

Concessions will be offered all day at War Memorial with hot food being prepared in the afternoon and throughout the Juniors game.

Garrett Connolly was bestowed the honor of throwing out the first pitch. The Sandpoint senior pitcher was chosen for his project as a 5th grader of renovating the Northside Elementary baseball field. In 2011, the project took shape and with the generous donations of labor, materials, money and equipment from local businesses, friends, family and neighbors, the project was completed.

From T-Ball to Juniors in both baseball and softball, Opening Day is always a special occasion.
