S.T.E.P. Bronze team places fifth at state championships

MERIDIAN — The S.T.E.P. gymnastics team capped off the competitive season recently with a strong showing at the Idaho Xcel Gymnastics State Tournament in Meridian, finishing fifth among 12 teams in attendance.

The Bronze team consisted of 10 stellar athletes representing Sandpoint in Emily and Lydia Babcock, Kinsley and Megen Vasquez, Khloe Brady, Blaire Jenkins, Sahara Williams, Sophia Binnall, Ariana Higgins and Madison Peck. The girls all had great successful seasons in our northern region, but each girl was determined to perform their best at the state level.

Emily Babcock competed in the Bronze D division, bringing home the title of Idaho State Champion in the All-around, placing 1st on bars, beam and floor, and 4th on vault. Emily was also listed in the 10 highest scoring gymnast list in Idaho, scoring the 7th highest all around score in the state of Idaho against all other levels and age groups.

Khloe Brady took home 2nd place on the floor in the C division, Blaire Jenkins placed 3rd on bars in the B division, Kinsley Vasquez placed 4th all-around and took home a 3rd on the bars in the B division, and Sahara Williams placed 3rd on the vault and the floor in the D division.

In the senior bronze division Madison Peck earned a 2nd place all-around finish, bringing home the state vault and floor title in the E division. Lydia Babcock placed 2nd on the bars in the C division, Sophia Binnall proudly took home the A division Floor State champion title, Ari Higgins placed in the top 5 on both beam and floor in the B division, and Megen Vasquez swung to victory on the bars, claiming the state title in the A division while also taking home a 3rd place finish on the floor.

S.T.E.P. also took three other levels to the state meet.
