Appraisers are a critical component to the assessment process and their contribution to the Assessor’s Office should not be taken lightly. An appraiser must have a good eye for detail, be aware of current market trends and be proficient with the tools needed to do their assigned tasks. An appraiser does not need to have management, leadership, or budgetary skills. Those are qualities the assessor must have to properly run the Assessor’s Office, as well as the ability to lead, manage and motivate the appraisers, the DMV staff and the support staff, all of whom work for the assessor. Proficiency with these qualities takes time and experience to acquire.

I have known Dennis Engelhardt for over a decade and through his service with the Marine Corps and subsequent years in county government managing budgets and leading people, I firmly believe he possesses all the attributes necessary to assure the Assessor’s Office is operated in a manner that is fiscally sound, supportive to the employees, while being accessible and open to the public for whom the Assessor serves.
