April 24, 1968 — LAMANNA ANNOUNCES

Announcement was made this week by Nicholas M. Lamanna, Priest River, that he will seek the Democratic nomination for state representative from the First legislative District.

Lamanna, a life-long resident of Bonner County, has been teaching in the Priest River High School for the past five years.

He is a graduate of Gonzaga University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history, law and philosophy.

REAGAN FEATURED AT HANSEN DINNER

California Governor Ronald Reagan will be the featured speaker at a fund raising “Old Time Political Jamboree” honoring Congressman George Hansen who has announced his intention to oppose Frank Church for his seat in the United States Senate. The $50-a-plate box lunch dinner and rally will be held in the Boise State College gymnasium April 26 starting at 7 o’clock.

Rickey Larkin has chosen the planting of 1,000 Christmas trees as his F.F.A. project under the supervision of his high school vo ag teacher, Mr. Wetter, and County Soil Conservationist Tom Wilson. Ricky now has 750 of his trees planted.

April 24, 1918 — CITY BREVITIES

Mrs. A.B. Cline, formerly nurse in Dr. Jackson’s hospital, has leased the same suite of rooms and will continue to conduct a public hospital.

A.C. Jacobson, until recently connected with the Dover store, last week enlisted in the U.S. army and is now at Fort Wright, Spokane, awaiting orders to go to the cantonment at Jacksonville, Fla. to enter the quartermaster’s department.

BRITISH SUBJECT ENLISTMENTS

Sergeant Braithwaite of the Canadian Seaforth Highlanders, Victoria, B.C., is here from Spokane to secure enlistments of British subjects. He points out that under enlistment Canadians and other British subjects may enlist for war service in any branch whereas if they wait to be drafted into the U. S. army they will be assigned duty wherever this country may place them. “This is the last chance British subjects in this locality will have to join their home colors,” said Sgt. Braithwaite this morning.

CHARLES HENRY RE-ELECTED

At the board of education meeting Monday, Superintendent Charles Henry was re-elected to the superintendency of the city schools and the entire present corps of teachers were tendered contracts for the ensuing year. The board made a substantial raise in salaries, averaging about 10 percent, or a total of $3000. Teachers have until next Monday to file their acceptances of the proffered contracts.
