JV boys win 4x100 relay at IEL championships

COEUR d’ALENE — A total of 10 athletes earned a the marks for varsity regionals, as the Bulldog JV boys and girls track teams each finished sixth out of seven teams recently at the Inland Empire League JV Championships at Lake City High School.

A total of 39 personal records were set, with the boys 4x100 team of Braden Kappen, Braedon Dressel, Walker Hermann and Dustin Norris the lone Bulldogs to claim first place, clocking a 46.3 to edge Post Falls.

Bulldog boys to earn top 5 marks included: Robbie Johnson, second in pole vault (10-6); Brady Nelsen, second in 3,200 (11:09) and third in 1,600 (5:05); Kappen, third in 100 (12.02) and fourth in 200 (24.56); Dressel, fourth in the 100 (12.05); Kaelon Curto, fourth in discus (106-2); Norris, fifth in long jump (17-6); and Ben Robinson, fifth in pole vault (10-0).

Bulldog girls earning top 5 marks: Autumn Morgan, second in 400 (1:09.71); Quinn Hooper, third in pole vault (6-6); Mesa Keating, fourth in 1,600 (6:18); and Lillian Anderson, fifth in discus (77-5).

Bulldogs earning the right to compete at Regionals: Autumn Morgan, 400/1,600; Quinn Hooper, PV; Lillian Anderson, discus; Mesa Keating, 1,600; Olivia Mallory, 100/200; Dustin Norris, LJ; Connor Moreno, high jump; Kaelon Curto, shot/disc; Brady Nelsen, 1,600/3,200; Keegan Nelson, 1,600/3,200.

On Saturday, Sandpoint took a small mix of JV and varsity athletes to Priest River for additional meet work. Medalists for the meet required a top 5 finish. Keegan Nelson was 5th in the 3,200 with a PR time of 11:29, Curto was 4th in the Discus in 106’9”, Connor Moreno was 4th in the High Jump with a 5’6” jump, Ben Robinson was 3rd in the Pole Vault with a 9’6” vault, and Ryan Bloomberg was 4th in the Long Jump with a 17’6” jump. Elaine Huang was 3rd in the High Jump in 4’8” and Quinn Hooper was 4th in the Pole Vault with a 6’6” vault.
