Sandpoint second at Post Falls Invitational

POST FALLS — CeCe Deprez shot 90 to lead four Bulldog girls in the 90s, and their team score of 364 was good enough for second place among nine teams at the Post Falls Invitational on Monday at Highlands Golf Course.

Sandpoint head coach Tom Tharp said the highlight of the day was Deprez, who shot a 50 on the front nine before taming the back with a season-low 40, just four over par.

“She just put her head down and said ‘I better shoot a low score,’ and darn if she didn’t do it; very proud of her,” said Tharp of his freshman lefty. “We had four girls in the 90s, that hasn’t happened for quite a while. They’re going in the right direction, things are looking up.”

Nick Crowley returned to the lineup and carded a team-low 86, just ahead of Lake Wilks’ 88 to lead the boys team to a sixth place finish, ahead of 4A rivals Lakeland and Moscow.

“The boys were driving the ball a lot better,” described Tharp, noting it was easily the best conditions of the year. “Their chipping and putting was significantly better than it has been.”

Sandpoint returns to action on Friday as Coeur d’Alene hosts the Kraus Invitational. Boys golfers will compete at Avondale Golf Club, while the girls play at Hayden Lake Country Club.
