Girls singles dominates as Bulldogs take down Trojans

| April 25, 2018 1:00 AM

POST FALLS — Allura Livingston, Jenny Slaveck and Olivia Ramirez swept the girls singles, and Christian Story and Charlie Johnson won at No. 1 and Shane Curtis and Tyler McNamee at No. 2 for a sweep in boys doubles, leading the Bulldogs to a 7-5 win over 5A Post Falls in a nonleague tennis dual Tuesday at Post Falls High School.

“Olivia came through under pressure to win a long three-set tiebreaker to seal the match. Olivia fought her way back after losing the first set with a relentless attitude,” praised Bulldog head coach Kent Anderson. “She finally rose victorious with a gut wrenching 11-9 third set breaker.”

The Clark sisters Amy and April remained undefeated at No. 1 girls singles this year, notching yet another win over 5A competition.

Curtis and McNamee are patient and gritty players, refusing to give up on any point, a style that can frustrate opponents. Declan Plummer won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and Terron Tvrdy in straight sets at No. 3 singles as the boys team had its best showing of the year.

“Terron won using a variety of shots to the open court and never allowing his opponent to win an easy point,” described Anderson. “Declan brought his A-game today. His penetrating top-spin forehand and vastly improved backhand was the difference.”

Sandpoint travels to Moscow today to face the Bears, who are stronger than they’ve been in years.
