Livingston, Slaveck shine in league loss to Moscow

| April 26, 2018 1:00 AM

MOSCOW — Allura Livingston and Jenny Slaveck scored decisive straight set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 girls singles, respectively, leading the Bulldogs in a 9-3 loss to Moscow on Wednesday in a 4A Inland Empire League tennis dual in Moscow.

Bulldog head coach Kent Anderson called Livingston the player of the day, as she continues to dismantle opponents at No. 1 singles, against posting a shutout without dropping a game.

“This may have been her best showing of the year and she’s had a lot of them. Allura’s precise angles gave her opponent no opportunity to ever mount a threat. She was all smiles when she walked off the court having hardly broken a sweat,” described Anderson, noting Slaveck was sharp as well. “Jenny completely overpowered her hard hitting opponent. What started out as a power versus power battle quickly evolved into Jenny playing the three-hits-and-out game, finishing almost every point with a penetrating passing shot.”

April and Amy Clark suffered their first loss of the season in a two-hour plus three-set marathon at No. 1 girls doubles.

Christian Story bounced back after a loss at No. 1 boys doubles to win the only other match for the Bulldogs at No. 3 singles. Shane Curtis and Tyler McNamee had some solid moments in a 6-4, 7-5 loss at No. 2 doubles.

“Christian and Charlie (Johnson) faced perhaps the best 4A doubles team in the state. The boys battled but the older, more experienced Moscow team was just too much,” claimed Anderson. “This is the best Moscow team I’ve seen in 10 years. We’ve got our work cut out for us.”

Sandpoint caps a busy week at the Inland Empire Tournament in Spokane on Friday.
