Aug. 7, 1968 – FALL WEDDING PLANNED

Mr. and Mrs. Norman McCaulley, Sandpoint, announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Lee McCaulley, to David Best, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orman Best, Route 5, Priest River.

Miss McCaulley is a graduate of Sandpoint Senior High and has attended North Idaho Junior College. He is employed at Merritt Bros. Lumber Co. in Priest River. A fall wedding is planned.

PROUDLY WE SALUTE

SP4 Raymond A. Kemp, 22, son of Lorraine M. Kemp, Route 1, Sandpoint, completed a helicopter repair course June 7 at the Army Transportation School, Ft. Eustis, Va. He received his silver wings upon graduation. In the 13-week course, he was trained in repair and maintenance of the Army’s cargo and troop carrying helicopters. Kemp left Sandpoint July 8 for Oakland, Calif., where he reported for duty in Vietnam and is now stationed near Saigon.

KRAMER AUTHORS BOOK

Sandpoint’s great all-pro football player, Jerry Kramer, of the champion Green Bay Packers has written a diary-style book entitled “Instant Replay: the Green Bay Diary of Jerry Kramer” which will be published in two condensed installments in Look magazine, beginning Aug. 20. The book itself will be released next month by publishers, New American Library, Inc.

Aug. 7, 1918 – COUNTY VALUATION

The valuation of county property for taxation purposes is computed at $8,418,023, exclusive of railroad and other property valued by the state board, a slight reduction from last year. There are 158,603 acres of timber land with a valuation of $2,400,000 and 231,405 acres of cut-over lands with a valuation of $1,592,455.

AROUND CITY AND COUNTY

Mrs. Peter Moran expects to leave in a few days for a trip to Boise to visit her daughter-in-law and triplet grandchildren.

From Priest River: The potato famine has been quite acute here. Merchants have had them shipped in by express when they could get them but the demand exceeded the supply two-thirds of the time. Spuds have retailed at 5c and 6c a pound. Copious rains will no doubt enable local gardens to relieve the situation soon.

IDAHO SOLDIERS MAY VOTE

Drafted men called into the service from Idaho need not lose their vote by reason of having entered the military service if they took the precaution to register before leaving. So long as they are within the Continental United States and can furnish necessary qualifications they are entitled to take advantage of the absentee voters’ law passed by the 1917 legislature.
