Summer's sizzlin' and the entertainment is hoppin'

SANDPOINT — Whoa — summer is sizzlin’ and the calendar is packed with entertainment. It’s the second and final week of The Festival at Sandpoint, the POAC Arts & Crafts Fair takes over the center of downtown this weekend and the Bonner County Fair is already in full swing.

Thursday, Aug. 9

Greensky Bluegrass

Venue: The Festival at Sandpoint, Memorial Field, Ontario Street, in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open and BrewFest tasting starts at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m.

In the summer of 2006, Greensky Bluegrass won the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition. In 2013 they played Red Rocks Amphitheatre for their first time in a support slot, and headlined a sold out concert at the famed venue in 2016. Supported by their faithful followers known as ‘Campers,’ Greensky Bluegrass has broken through to a multi-genre fan base. Opening artist: Parsonfield.

Bright Moments

When this Sandpoint ensemble takes the stage, you can always expect great tunes and good times.

Jake Robin

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

Jake’s music has been described as ‘up music for down people’ and ‘esoteric for everyone.’ His acoustic live performances fuse levity with the bittersweet.

Friday, Aug. 10

Sublime with Rome

Venue: The Festival at Sandpoint, Memorial Field, Ontario Street, in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7:30 p.m.

This American ska/punk/reggae band with original members from Long Beach, Calif., collaborates with renowned guitarist and vocalist Rome Ramirez. A defining member of the southern Californian metal, surf rock punk scene, Sublime often combined punk rock with hip hop, heavy metal, dancehall, reggae, ska, funk, and surf music.Admission $64.95

MCS Music Beyond Borders Benefit Concert

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 3 p.m.

This special benefit concert will feature the Music Conservatory of Sandpoint’s International Summer Youth Orchestra conducted by Dr. Philip Baldwin — with special guests Katelyn & Laurie Shook. It’s a festive, galactic-themed matinee, with 50 percent of all ticket sales will benefit the Uryadi’s Village Orphanage in Ethiopia.

Artists’ Studio Tour

Saturday, Aug. 11

Gavin Degraw & Phillip Phillips

Venue: The Festival at Sandpoint, Memorial Field, Ontario Street, in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m.

Gavin Degraw rose to fame with the single ‘I Don’t Want to Be’ from his debut album. His second, self-titled album included the top-twenty single ‘In Love with a Girl.

Phillip Phillips is an American singer-songwriter who won the 11th season of American Idol, where he first described his style as ‘jazz, rock, alternative.’

POAC Arts & Crafts Fair

Venue: Downtown Sandpoint – Main St. at Second Av.

Time: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

More than 90 arts and crafts and crafters this year! Food vendors, live music and the Kaleidoscope Kids’ booth.

Celebrate Life Fun Run/Walk

Venue: Dog Beach (Just east of the Long Bridge on path) in Sandpoint.

Time: Late registration starts at 8 a.m., event begins at 9 a.m. – Sat. Aug. 11

Celebrate life Fun Run/Walk began in 2004, the vision of a courageous and beautiful young woman, Jenny Meyer, who was diagnosed at age 26 with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Jenny’s valiant fight inspired her sister, Julie Walkington, to make a difference not only for Jenny, but for others in this community with a cancer diagnosis.

Summer Slide & Slam Cornhole Tourney

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 312 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Registration ends at 12:30 p.m., first toss at 1 p.m.

Cornhole kings and queens will be taking to the brewery’s four regulation courts set up to test their tossin’ abilities!

Grand Finale with Spokane Symphony Orchestra

Venue: The Festival at Sandpoint, Memorial Field, Ontario Street, in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for wine tasting, show starts at 7:30 p.m.

The Festival season culminates with this Grand Finale Concert starring the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Gary Sheldon, who will select some of his favorite pieces from his 20 years as The Festival’s Principal Conductor. Preceding the concert, the annual ‘Taste of the Stars’ Wine Tasting, is now the largest wine event of its kind in the state of Idaho, complimentary for all concertgoers over the age of 21. The traditional fireworks finale will close The Festival at Sandpoint’s 36th season in celebratory fashion.
