Southside hosting STEAM program

COCOLALLA — Registration is open for a new STEAM afterschool program at Southside Elementary.

In 2015, Southside earned “National Distinguished Title 1 School” and with this prestigious award the school was presented with $30,000, said Southside principal Jacque Johnson. This year, the funds were committed to increase the teaching staff as well as start a new after school STEAM program.

“We know there is community need for after school child care, and our staff is passionate about providing excellent educational opportunities however we can,” Johnson said.

Each day students will have homework time, exploration activity, and an activity on a STEAM theme: Monday, science; Tuesday, technology; Wednesday, engineering; Thursday, art; and Friday, math.

Students do not need to qualify for this program, parents can select everyday, a theme day, or as needed.
