Aug. 30, 1968 — MYSIS SHRIMP PLANTED

Some 300,000 mysis shrimp, captured in Kootenay lake at Balfour on Aug. 22, have been released in Lake Pend Oreille at Anderson point, Bayview vicinity and off Granite creek. Idaho fisheries are watching to determine the result.

SIX BECOME PRACTICAL NURSES

Six women, with a year of study behind them, received their diplomas last week and became practical nurses. Diplomas were handed out at a special ceremony at Northern Lights Aug. 21 to Catherine E. Girtman, Katherine Leone Lund, Coral Emma McIntosh, Linda Joanne Patton, Beverly D. Shields and Freda Rae Stockdale. They trained under Mrs. Sam Wormington, instructor, and other registered nurses at Bonner General Hospital, in class rooms above the new city library and at the Coeur d’Alene hospital.

COULSTON AND ELLIOT ENGAGED

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Coulston, 546 South Lavina, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Judith Ann, to Larry G. Elliot, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Elliot, 1314 Main St.

The young couple, both 1967 graduates of Sandpoint Senior High, have completed one year of study at Eastern Washington State College, Cheney, Wash. No wedding plans have been made.

Pend d’Oreille Review

Aug. 30, 1918 ­ SAVE THE FRUIT PITS

Mrs. Hitchner, Bonner county conservation chairman, has received a government appeal asking housewives to save in their canning all peach, plum, prune and fruit pits, hickory nuts, walnuts, etc., that they may be saved for the manufacture of carbon for gas masks.

RIVER PROJECT UNFEASIBLE

The proposed flood control of the waters of the Pend d’Oreille lake and river is not feasible according to the government drainage engineer who made a reconnaissance of the river, lake and overflowed land recently.

The report says: “The reclamation of a certain amount of agricultural land bordering Lake Pend d’Oreille and river is possible, but its feasibility depends on whether or not the benefits derived will justify the cost. The cost of excavation ... would render the project unfeasible.”

SUNSET GIRLS’ DANCE BIG SUCCESS

The Sunset Girls’ dance at the Liberty was a big success socially and financially. The music was fine, the dances were introduced by bugle call, the hall was filled with dancers and the dance was voted a big success.

The proceeds, $170, will be used to furnish the city and county with service flags. Members of the organization are planning a public demonstration to mark the unveiling of the service flags.
