Leopold Joseph Jude Heinan, 31

| December 1, 2018 12:00 AM

Leopold “Leo” Heinan, 31, of Post Falls, Idaho, and Priest River, Idaho, died Monday night, Nov. 19, 2018, at his residence in a tragic accident.

He leaves behind his parents, Anthony (“Tony”) and Jana Pritchard Heinan, siblings Sarah Grant (Ryan), Andrew Heinan (Jayna) and Audrey Heinan (aka Sr. Mary Gertrude, O. Praem.); six beloved nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Born July 10, 1987, Leo was a devout parishioner of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Coeur d’Alene, where he served as usher and security. He also served the public in various roles as well, from lifeguard at Hayden’s Triple Play, to pyrotechnician with Rocketman (notably designing and enacting the annual show at Grand Coulee Dam), maintenance operator for Kootenai County Parks and Waterways (many of the new concrete docks were designed and built by him, setting his talented hands to many projects to make local parks beautiful, clean and inviting), and a brown belt jiu jitsu fighter at Iron Lion (his humbly prized achievement; and he was known for being unbeatable).

Well-known for his selfless acts of kindness and spontaneous humor, absolute devotion to his faith and family, his love for children and nature, and his fierceness in standing up for what is right, Leo will be greatly missed; the superhero of so many lives.

A largly attended Rosary and viewing took place at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, Monday, Nov. 26. The funeral took place in a packed St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Coeur d’Alene, Nov. 27, followed by burial at St. Thomas Cemetery.

A GoFundMe account has been set up on Facebook to help the family with funeral costs (bit.ly/LeoHeinan). A BJJ Charity Seminar has also been arranged in Leo’s honor by his brothers at Iron Lion. The Jiu Jitsu roll will take place Dec. 8, 2018, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Iron Lion Academy, Dalton Gardens; $40 per attendee.
