Time to get jazzed about week's entertainment options

SANDPOINT — Approaching the middle of the month, you can feel the momentum building as far as the number of entertainment options goes.

Tonight, it’s the first Grateful Dead jam at Idaho Pour Authority and Friday night features a CD release concert with Beth Pederson and Bruce Bishop at DiLuna’s. Also Friday, the Pend Oreille Chorale & Chamber Orchestra performs at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in an annual holiday concert tradition.

Saturday brings Studio 1 and the Jazzy Nutcracker to the Panida, as well as a cool creative writing workshop series beginning this weekend at The Library.

Get thee out and enjoy thyself.

PSNI Christmas Market

Venue: Panhandle Special Needs greenhouse, 1424 N. Boyer Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 10 a.m.-6 p.m., runs daily through Dec. 23

More than 20 vendors are selling handmade gifts, retail items, and holiday decor.

Friday, Dec. 14

Beth Pederson & Bruce Bishop CD Release Concert

Venue: DiLuna’s Cafe, 207 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for dinner and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

When you combine the talents of two seasoned performers of exceptional artistry as singers, songwriters and musicians you find an irresistible pairing. Their repertoire of old standards, contemporary folk, and originals, along with their easy-going style, continue to delight.

Pend Oreille Chorale & Chamber Orchestra

Venue: St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 601 S. Lincoln St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.; additional performance on Dec. 16

This year’s performance of uplifting classical music will include some familiar carols as well as conductor Mark Reiner’s own Meditation Mass. The Selkirk Brass will also join the ensemble for several pieces. A reception with refreshments will follow.

Community Day

Venue: Schweitzer Mountain Resort

Time: All day

This fundraiser puts 100 percent of proceeds back into our community to Community Cancer Services and the Bonner Partners in Care Clinic. What an excellent way to support two truly great local organizations.

Admission: $10 lift tickets, with all money going to the above groups.

POAC Winter Art Market & Artist of the Year Exhibit

Venue: Cedar St. Bridge Gallery, 334 N 1st Ave. (2nd Floor), in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30-7:00 p.m.

POAC honors Eli Sevenich, the 2018 Artist of the Year, with a special reception. Eli is a local painter who also teaches Kaleidoscope art lessons as Washington Elementary. Friday also kicks off a full weekend of the Winter Art Market, featuring affordable artwork from many POAC Artists in a variety of mediums.

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Featuring live music by Arvid Lundin & Deep Roots, with Emily Faulkner as the caller. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm.

Holiday Story Pour-y Hour

Venue: Matchwood Brewing Co., 513 Oak St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 4-5:30 p.m.

Bring the kids to listen to stories read by the brewery’s in-house, professionally trained storytime reader Carli Pignolet, with family-friendly holiday-themed books, milk, and homemade cookies while parents sip on handcrafted beers. Kids’ PJs, blankies, and stuffed animals welcome!
