And how are you responding to Jesus?

In observing the birth of Jesus as handed down to us through Matthew and Luke, it is fascinating to consider the many perspectives shown to us.

While we couldn’t know how “everyone” reacted to the birth of Jesus, the authors are intent to show us how some responded. The key question at the end of the day is: “How have I responded to the incarnation of God and what is my attitude and perspective of his imminent return?” Take the prophets, for example. The prophets anticipated the arrival of the Messiah with the greatest of expectations. To them, it would change everything. The question to be asked, then, is: “Is Jesus my greatest expectation, or am I seeking satisfaction and hope in something/someone else?”

Another example would be the Magi. These wise men came from the east in all humility bringing gifts to the newborn King and offering to him the worship he deserves (and not giving Herod the worship that he craved). So the question becomes: “Do I approach Jesus with the humility of the Magi? Do I offer to him what he deserves to receive? Do I bow down to him in worship, recognizing him as the Lord of the world?”

Take some time to read through the birth narratives and examine how you are responding to Jesus. My prayer for you, dear reader, is that this season will be full of the joy and the grace that is found in Christ, the everlasting Lord.
