BOISE — Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill, who has ruled in federal cases arising in Bonner County, is stepping down, but will continue to carry A full caseload.

U.S. District Judge David C. Nye will assume the role of chief in their respective courts on Jan. 2, 2019, according to the U.S. Courts for the District of Idaho.

Winmill has served as the Chief District Judge for nearly two decades.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished in the last 19 years. But those accomplishments are not the result of the work of our judges. They come from the many committed and hard-working court employees who come to work every day committed to our vision of serving the public, reducing the cost and delay inherent in litigation, and striving to make the rule of law meaningful to our citizens. Fortunately, they will carry on with that great work under the able guidance of Judge Nye.”

Winmill has issued rulings in a variety of cases including the Tower Fire restoration lawsuit, the officer-involved shooting which claimed the life of Jeanetta Riley, the Silverwing housing development lawsuit and a whistleblower lawsuit filed against Sandpoint Gas ‘n’ Go.
