What could be more reasonable than Matt Nykiel’s suggestion that the state fund more track inspectors for the second BNSF bridge? (Daily Bee, Dec. 6, 2018)
We know it will be dangerous to our lake to ship more hazardous materials across our water, up to double the rates now by 2040. And we know that BNSF regularly has spills that could be avoided by more inspections. These are good, high paying jobs that might possibly be filled by local people?
Nykiel’s second request, that BNS demonstrate it can contain a spill any day of the year, including during the winter and spring runoff, makes equal sense. BNSF has provided some of the resources, now they need to demonstrate they can deploy them in a reasonable amount of time.
What are our political office-holders doing about this? Let’s ask them:
