Dec. 25, 1968 — WHAT IS CHRISTMAS?

If you would describe Christmas, begin at the beginning. Its origin is simple and uncomplicated, really. It is the birth of a Child at Bethlehem. Everyone knows the story. It has been repeated, unchanged, in every tongue, for generations.

Christmas is the message of Bethlehem — the realization that Christ is born and Christ is with us, today and always the hope, the light, the promise and the fulfillment.

Christmas is a simple, meaningful phrase; “For on this day is born unto the world a Saviour…”

SNOWSTORM UNLOADS ON SANDPOINT

Sandpoint city crews face a crucial holiday period with the heavy snowfall of Monday and Tuesday, rain predicted today and more snow expected to follow. More than a foot of the white stuff was on the ground by Monday midnight and several inches were added Tuesday. Rain is forecast as temperatures rise.

Motorists are requested to not park on streets overnight. The crews must have every break if they are to keep the snow cleared from the streets and keep ahead of future storms. Cars not moved after midnight will be towed.

SHERIFF’S BLOTTER

A car slid over the bank near the Sandpoint Y Monday night. The driver was charged with during under the influence of alcohol.

MRS. GIBSON WINS GOOSE

Mrs. T.L. Gibson won the Christmas goose offered by Philip Willi for the closest guess on the weight of the dressed steer that has hung in the Bonner market several days. The steer weighed 495 pounds and Mrs. Gibson guessed 500.

LOCAL BRIEFS

John Nelson has returned from military school at Moscow and again works at the post office.

Hollis McCrea returned from Camp Taylor, Kentucky, where he attended artillery school.

A.R. Derr, Clarksfork area rancher, had business in town Tuesday and Wednesday.

Luther Piatt, living across the long bridge, was taken to the Central hospital suffering with influenza. His brother, Ben, who had been in the hospital a week, is reported convalescing.
