James Marvin Dean, 84

James Marvin Dean, 84, passed away in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at the Westmond Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

James was born in Hawaii on June 5, 1934, the son of John and Alida Dean. The family moved to Southern California and he graduated, from high school, in Pomona, Calif. He would then graduate from Cal Poly with a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked in the space program, helping develop space rockets. He was an inventor, holding six patents.

He married Dwan Barnhurst and they moved to the Careywood, Idaho, area in 1978 and designed his own home. He enjoyed inventing products that would be useful to, and help, people. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Westmond Ward.

He is survived by his wife, Dwan Dean, at the home; his daughter, Sherri Dean at the home in Careywood; and two sons, James M. Dean Jr. in Post Falls, Idaho, and Mark Dean in Sandpoint, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
