POAC to celebrate move with open house
Movin’ on up! Three staff members sharing two desks and a lack of storage sparked the Pend Oreille Arts Council’s board of directors to approve a move to the Cedar Street Bridge last month. Now, settled into more spacious offices, the board invites the public to attend an open house to check it out.
On Friday, February 9 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., staff and board will show off their new second floor accommodations with an artist exhibit and information about POAC performances and programs.
“The move gives us more space to work on the growing number of projects that POAC has on its plate,” POAC board vice president Kris Contor said. “We’re looking to expand our education programs. From our hands-on visual arts education program, Kaleidoscope to our performing arts program, Ovations we partner with local educators to bring cultural events to our rural community and look forward to facilitating increased participation.”
Contor also mentioned how POAC helps promote local artists with exhibits and artists’ receptions at various venues around town.
“With events such as ArtWalk, the summer Arts and Crafts Fair and our annual Art Party, we’re in a great position to increase the opportunities for local businesses to get involved in the arts,” he said.
POAC president Carol Deaner agreed with Contor and added that she hopes everyone in the community interested in the arts will come to the open house to meet the board, the staff, our volunteers and view the art exhibit by local artists.
“We are a community organization and we would be interested in hearing from the public about what types of art and cultural events they would like to see POAC initiate or put additional emphasis on,” Deaner said.
